This programme looks into the histories and origins of various cults, asking what cults are and where they come from. We also ask why cult leaders continue to hold sway in modern society, and why ‘ordinary’ people often regard cults with a mixture of repugnance and fear.
We also ask where society draws the dividing line between a dangerous, manipulative community and a healthy, legitimate movement. This program will pry open a window into a secretive and controversial world of faith, sacrifice, exploitation… and sometimes terror.
